Meliá Hotels International, chosen as “most reputable” company in the Spanish tourism industry

Meliá Hotels International is once again positioned as the leading tourism company in terms of corporate reputation according to Merco Empresas. The hotel company, ranked 22nd in the ranking, once again stands out in the classification prepared by the business reputation monitor. The hotel company, in addition to leading its sector, remains in the premium zone of Spanish companies, occupying 22nd place in the overall ranking. This highlights the positive assessment of Meliá by its different stakeholders who trust in the value and potential of the solid company that continues to innovate, both in terms of product and digitalization, offering a unique and quality experience to its customers, as well as remaining committed to ESG.  In this regard, it is worth noting that Meliá Hotels International was the most sustainable hotel company in the world according to the S&P Global 2023 Corporate Sustainability Assessment. Meliá Hotels International, founded by Gabriel Escarrer in 1956, is a partner of GMA in the vehicle promoted by Bankinter Investment Victoria Hotels & Resorts, and operates 6 hotels of Atom Hoteles Socimi, including the famous Meliá Valencia or the Sol La Palma, which will open its doors this year after 1,000 days closed due to the volcano.   Merco, a benchmark reputational assessment tool in Spain and Latin America that has been analyzing the reputation of companies since 2000, is backed by the market research company Análisis e Investigación. To prepare this report, it has carried out more than 63,435 surveys, seven evaluations and has used 28 sources of information. In addition, it was independently reviewed by KPMG. When evaluating the different companies, factors such as the projection of short and medium-term profits, the success of the business strategy or corporate governance, environmental sustainability and the quality of management are taken into account. Also taken into account are transparency of information, social commitment to the country and contribution to the community, among others.

Spain reaches almost first position in WTO tourism development index

According to the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI), carried out by the World Economic Forum, Spain has become the second most important tourist market, trailing only the United States and by a small percentage.Measuring global as well as industry-centered macroeconomic data, and combining it with qualitative research and interviews with experts from around the globe, the Index presented yesterday shows signs of development in the Spanish T&T industry, which has grown 0,9% compared to last year’s edition. The United States, ranking first, has seen its lead decrease significatively, losing 0,5% since last year. This index, which has been produced in collaboration with the University of Surrey, offers unique insights into the strengths and areas for improvement of each country to support the enhancement of long-term growth of their #travel, #tourism, and #hospitality sectors in a sustainable and resilient manner.Once more, it becomes clear that not only is the T&T industry a key cornerstone of Spain’s economy and wellbeing, but also of its position in the world and continuous growth and development. As Francisco Betti has declared in the article attached, “this year marks an inflection point… which, as we all know, has the ability to make growth possible and serve the best interests of communities through economic and social transformation.”There are still many challenges waiting to be tackled in the industry, from macroeconomic conditions to geopolitical and environmental threats, as well as management, vacancies, and new technologies. However, the trend clearly seen in the Travel and Tourism Development Index drives us to work harder every day to ensure that the T&T and hospitality industries continue to deliver sustainable, long-term growth and development to the Spanish, European, and worldwide society.

Atom Hoteles Socimi sells the Labranda Costa Mogán Hotel

–       The vehicle promoted by Bankinter Investment and GMA makes its fifth divestment, in addition to having acquired two luxury hotels last January in Barcelona. –       H-10 Hoteles, the buyer of the asset, will become its new operator. –       Located on the seafront of Playa del Cura, it was the hotel with the smallest number of rooms in Atom’s portfolio. Atom Hoteles Socimi has announced the sale of Hotel Labranda Costa Mogán, a 4-star, 125-room asset, to H-10 Hoteles, which will become the new operator. The hotel, acquired by the vehicle founded by Bankinter Investment and GMA in 2019, opened in 2021 after a comprehensive refurbishment, enabling its successful repositioning in the lifestyle segment. Hotel Labranda Costa Mogán was the resort with the smallest number of rooms in the Atom Hoteles portfolio, although it has a wonderful tourist location on the seafront of Playa del Cura, Mogán, in Gran Canaria. The renovation of the hotel, led by GMA Corporate as manager of the Socimi, Patricia Galdón’s studio, and the Meeting Point group, was awarded multiple prizes for its innovative interior design. Taking as the basic concept of the project the integration of nature and the characteristic features of the island, the architecture and design sought, and achieved, to harmonize the hotel with its surroundings. Both in the interiors and exteriors, as well as in the gardens, Patricia Galdón and GMA opted for a project of earthy colors with touches of blue and green, transporting the guest to the sea and nature. As is the norm in all investment vehicles driven by Bankinter Investment and GMA, sustainability and energy efficiency were at the heart of the transformation process. Among other achievements, the asset achieved energy letter B certification, and energy centers were installed in the building. In this sense, H10 Hoteles, the new operator and owner of the asset, acquires a renovated hotel fully in line with the most recent sustainability protocols in the hospitality industry. GMA Corporate has wanted to “thank Meeting Point for the mutual collaboration throughout this process”, as well as “the commitment and professionalism” shown during the last few years. Likewise, GMA Corporate has expressed its pride in “having been able to participate in this purchase, transformation and repositioning in which we have consolidated the hotel as a first class destination on the island of Gran Canaria. Looking to the future, both the destination and this particular asset will continue to be a benchmark for sustainable and committed tourism”.
