- Following a €6 million investment, the property secured an “A” Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and obtained an Ecostars* Gold rating.
- The 2024 photovoltaic plant is the largest installed to date by Atom Hoteles SOCIMI and ranks among the most extensive solar arrays in any Mallorcan hotel.
- On-site generation now covers c. 75 % of the hotel’s electricity demand across its 300-plus rooms.
The Fergus Club Palmanova Park—a 300-room resort—has achieved an A-rated EPC after the comprehensive refurbishment led jointly by the operator and GMA Corporate. The holistic intervention both revitalised the asset and aligned it with current sustainability requirements, elevating its rating from “C” to “A”. GMA Corporate emphasised that “these initiatives form part of our strategic plan to create a positive impact on the territory, the industry, visitors and the destinations in which we operate.” Earlier this year the hotel also received the Ecostars* Gold certification for its responsible, environmentally conscious tourism practices.
The refurbishment and the new 110 kW photovoltaic plant mean that approximately 75 % of the electricity consumed by Fergus Club Palmanova Park is now generated on-site. “This solar installation is the largest in our portfolio and one of the most significant in Mallorca’s hotel sector,” GMA Corporate noted, adding that “sustainability is an investment in the future.”
Beyond solar power, the 2023 upgrade replaced all conventional lighting with energy-efficient LEDs, optimised water consumption per stay, embedded ethical practices internally and with external partners, and installed ergonomic furniture—such as height-adjustable beds—to foster a healthier work environment and reduce injury risk, guided by the Quality & Sustainability team at Fergus Group. GMA Corporate is a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, underscoring its ESG commitment.
Atom Hoteles SOCIMI’s portfolio comprises 27 hotels, all operating with below-average emissions and holding green credentials. Four assets already boast the coveted BREEAM certification, the world’s leading sustainable-construction label. “As managers of Spain’s largest hotel SOCIMI,” the company stated, “we have a duty to ensure our actions minimise environmental impact and to consolidate a sustainable management model alongside our operators.”
Fergus Club Palmanova Park reopened in 2023 after the refurbishment that enabled its new energy rating. The resort offers three experience-driven pools (Splash Pool, Swim-Up, etc.), two restaurants, several beverage outlets, a spa, sports areas and dedicated venues for weddings and events. Over the past decade, Fergus Group has become a benchmark in Spain’s tourism sector, with properties across the Balearic Islands, the Canaries, Catalonia and Andalusia.
The photovoltaic installation received funding from the EU’s NextGenerationEU programme under Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
